Nathan Laxague: Observations of near-surface current shear help describe oceanic oil and plastic transport
The Litter Mermaid Project by Lauren Kitayama
The Litter Mermaid Project started as an internship with Debris Free Oceans based in Miami, FL. Lauren Kitayama, our intern receiving a Masters in Professional Science at RSMAS, was trying to quantify the problem of marine litter in Biscayne Bay by adding more rigorous data collection from coastal cleanups, and encouraging others to do the same. In completing her degree, Lauren conducted one of the first holistic analyses of marine debris accumulation and dispersal data in Miami, Florida.
